There are a number of unbeatable reasons: Sardinia is the second largest Mediterranean island but has only 1'651'888 inhabitants with a surface of 24'090 square kilometres. Thanks to the low population density, even today, modern tourists encounter pristine landscapes and wild animal species long extinct in other parts of Europe. Majestic goose vultures, small white donkeys, pink flamingos and wild horses are an integral part of this beautiful island. Sardinia is sometimes referred to as the twin island of Corsica, but it is obviously the more attractive one! Compare to its French sister it offers essentially a wider choice of beaches. Steep dropping rocks, long white sandy beaches, grottos and dreamy sandy bays alternate each other in a continual variety. The altogether 1'849 kilometres of coastline will never stop to surprise you.
Sun, sand and sea are only few of the advantages of Sardinia. The island has undisclosed inner secrets and breathtaking landscapes. Steep and rough mountain ranges - the highest peak is located in the Gennargentu Mountains and reaches a maximum altitude of 1'835 metres - and also hills (67.9%), plains (13.6%) and small mountain ranges (13.6%) This is what makes it a pearl of the Mediterranean. Sometimes you might get the impression that you are passing a flat area and then you suddenly find yourself on a large plateau with views of the sea or deep gorges.
Sardinian roads are surprisingly well maintained. They all feature the safety required by European laws. The only drawback, however, are the signs. They are sometimes heading to the wrong directions due to local vandalism or are missing altogether. For this reason, it is recommended to always have a detailed road map on hand when driving around. But you shouldn't be ashamed of asking for directions, Sardinians are famous for their kindness and would sometimes take you to the right direction themselves telling you to follow them on their Vespa or car. The most beautiful periods for a round trip are certainly the months from September to June. Get surprised by Sardinia's kept secrets, and experience this island differently!
