Costa Smeralda
Place and Surroundings
Porto Cervo: the most exclusive holiday resort of this coast, it gets animated only during the summer months. From the 70's this area was aimed to the higher class tourist market segment and distinguishes itself with a special architectural style with round arches, low buildings and pastel whitewashed exterior walls.
Liscia di Vacca, Capriccioli, Cala di Volpe and Marina di Portisco are small holiday resorts with elegant hotels and apartment residences.
Marina di Portisco is a small yacht harbor with a romantic atmosphere.
Porto Rotondo, a luxurious holiday resort with yacht harbor, faces the gulf of Golfo di Marinella, in the south end of the Costa Smeralda. The place is often compared to Porto Cervo.
San Pantaleo is a small mountain village, still unknown until the beginning of the sixties. It was discovered in consequence of the international impetus of the Costa Smeralda by numerous artists.

Day Trips
Typical of the area:
The Gallura region became known thanks to the Costa Smeralda and its emerald-green sea. But furthermore is characterised by bizarre granite rock formations, chiselled by the wind, antique cork oak forests, Vermentino wineries and the culinary speciality Zuppa Gallurese. Characteristic of this area are also the “Stazzi” (sardinian stone houses) of the Gallura sheperds.
Palau
At the top of North Sardinia opposite the island of La Maddalena. It's the main centre of the surrounding smaller holidays resorts. As well as the departing point for the ferries to the islands of La Maddalena and Corsica.
La Maddalena and Caprera
Two neighbouring islands in the protected area of the archipelago of La Maddalena. A 600 meters long brigde for cars joins the island of La Maddalena to Caprera.
The later is the adoptive country of the Italian national hero Giuseppe Garibaldi where you can pay a visit to his country house as well as the Museo Nazionale del Compendio Garibaldino.
Capo D'Orso (Cape of the Bear)
The bear-shaped rock is on the promontory of the same name Capo d'Orso close to Palau. From here you can see the extensive archipelago of La Maddalena.
"Il Fungo" The Mushroom Rock
In Arzachena, not far from Piazza Risorgimento, lies the rock “IL Fungo”. The naturally shaped granite sculpture has the form of a large mushroom.
Nuraghe Albucciu
2 Kms South-east from Arzachena on the SS 125 lies Nuraghe Albucciu. A well known, prehistoric monument. Around the Nuraghe you can see the remnants of the Megaron temple Malchittu (approx. 1500 b.C.)
Grave of the Giants Coddu Vecchiu
This very famous grave of the giants, only few kilometers away from Arzachena, developed in two different phases. A tunnel grave was built between the 18th and 16th Century b.C.; and in nuragic time (16th to 12th Century b.C.) a semicircular area was developed for ritual purposes.
Necropolis Li Muri
It's a worth seeing necropolis approximately 8 kms distance from Arzachena, in direction of Luogosanto. It comes from the Neolithic herdsmen culture period of Arzachena. (from 3500 to 2700 b.C.)
Tempio Pausania
A picturesque little granite town in the Limbara mountains. It lies approximately 600 ms above sea level, in the midst of impressive granite rocks and antique cork oak forests.
Capo Testa
Approximately 4 kms to the west of Santa Teresa di Gallura. Here wind and waves have shaped natural, imaginative sculptures in the granite rocks.
Valle della Luna
The "moon valley" is an impressive, wide granite cliff. Where on its sides high cliff faces were chiselled by the winds and sea to shapes that remind of fabulous creature. The "moon valley" is approximately 3 kms from Santa Teresa di Gallura, in direction of Capo Testa. To reach it take a 600 mt narrow path before the street to the lighthouse.
