Day Trips
Typical of the area:
The Gallura region became known thanks to the Costa Smeralda and its emerald-green sea. But furthermore is characterised by bizarre granite rock formations, chiselled by the wind, antique cork oak forests, Vermentino wineries and the culinary speciality Zuppa Gallurese. Characteristic of this area are also the “Stazzi” (sardinian stone houses) of the Gallura sheperds.
Olbia
The city was founded in the 6th century b.C. by the Punics. Under Spanish dominion the city of Olbia took its important role as a "gate" to Sardinia. Interesting are the remainders of a Punic necropolis. The good restaurants are certainly worth a visit.
Arzachena
The small town of Arzachena represents the tourist resort centre of the Costa Smeralda. It is also a popular destination for walks around the town to admire numerous granite facades.
Tempio Pausania
A picturesque little granite town in the Limbara mountains. It lies approximately 600 ms above sea level, in the midst of impressive granite rocks and antique cork oak forests.
Island of Tavolara
Off the coast of San Teodoro lies the " Isola Tavolara ". A 500 m high limestone rocky island, partly a military restricted area. Though it's also a holiday resort with beaches, cafés and restaurants. The " Parco Geomarino " on the island of Tavolara is highly recommendable for nature lovers and divers.
Costa Smeralda
Costa Smeralda is the most famous coast of Sardinia which extends from Marina di Portisco to Porto Quato. From the 70s this area was aimed and was dedicated to the highest tourist market segment with a peculiar construction design. It's worth to take a walk, first of all, around Porto Cervo, the most representative small town.
La Maddalena and Caprera
Two neighbouring islands in the protected area of the archipelago of La Maddalena. A 600 meters long brigde for cars joins the island of La Maddalena to Caprera.
The later is the adoptive country of the Italian national hero Giuseppe Garibaldi where you can pay a visit to his country house as well as the Museo Nazionale del Compendio Garibaldino.
