Alghero
Place and Surroundings
The Sardinian Catalan coastal town of Alghero is in north-west of Sardinia. In the first half of the 11th century it was created by the Genoese aristocrat family Doria. Then in 1353 the Catalans took over the dominion and traces are found still today in the language and architecture. The city walls and the towers are the impressive witnesses of that era.
The tourist development of Alghero began only with the building of the summer residence of the Savoia "Las Tronas" around 1900.
